This question has plagued humanity from long before recorded history. It is not that God has plagued humanity with the question; rather, it is the doubt and misunderstanding of human beings that has raised the question. The modern and post-modern era have truly pushed the idea that God doesn't exist; however, many great thinkers have well argued God's existence over the years.
Some thinkers have ventured so far as to say that if God does exist, then He must be the cause of evil in the world. They claim that there can be no explanation of an omnipotent God who does nothing to stop all the evil in the world.
