Because I have the 8:00AM Mass this morning, it is my duty to open up the doors to the Church. There are a few people who like to get to the Church especially early, so I have to make sure that the doors are open by at least 6:30AM. Especially with the weather getting a bit colder, I wouldn't want our parishioners to freeze outside. It is what motivates me on days like this.
So as I woke up this morning, I couldn't help but to look out my windows to see that the sun had not arose quite yet. I quickly got ready and proceeded to the Church where I would unlock all of the exterior doors. As I opened the door facing East, I couldn't help but to stop for a moment. Distant on the horizon, over the trees, there was a glimmer of light. It was a pale orange at this point; yet, it was enough to light up a good portion of the sky. A few seconds felt like minutes.
The beauty of sunrises and sunsets is that they happen every day. It is something that we can enjoy just about every day if we put forth the effort. In the midst of all that is happening in our daily lives, this is sort of God's mini-retreat for the day. It is a moment to be cherished for sure. And like all of God's gifts, it doesn't cost anything to behold this beauty.
