What does it mean to have wisdom? Our readings this week explore this very topic of Wisdom. I think that one of the greatest examples of true wisdom comes from the life of Thomas Merton. Through his conversion story, you see a man whose greatest pursuit was knowledge become a man of immense wisdom. Knowledge always left him wanting, just as it often leaves us wanting; however, Wisdom calls us to take a step back and see just a little bit how God sees the world. This lead Thomas Merton to say his famous line as he would later visit downtown Louisville after he became a Trappist Monk: "I wish that people could see that they were shining as bright as the sun." This phrase could only come from a place of love - a great contentedness to God.
